ELEVATED TNF-a CORRELATES WITH PLATELET LEVELS IN DIABETIC FOOT ULCERS

Abstrak
Type 2 diabetes mellitus with diabetic foot ulcer complications involves chronic inflammation that impairs wound healing. This study examined the correlation between TNF-a, platelet counts, HbA1c, and prothrombin time in diabetic patients with ulcer complications. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 diabetic patients at RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek, Lampung. TNF-a was measured by ELISA, while platelet count, prothrombin time, and HbA1c were analyzed by standard analyzer. Pearson correlation and linear regression analyses were performed. Strong positive correlation was found between TNF-a and platelet counts (r = 0.86, p < 0.0001). No significant correlations were observed between other measured parameters. TNF-a strongly correlates with platelet counts in diabetic foot ulcer patients, suggesting inflammation-driven platelet activation. These findings identify TNF-a as a potential biomarker for inflammatory burden in diabetic foot ulcers.
